What types of workers can I hire through the SINP?

Skilled Workers – Professionals, managers, and skilled trades people who have a full-time, permanent job offer from a Saskatchewan employer or temporary foreign workers already in the province with a work permit who meet the criteria of the category.

Health Professionals – Physicians, Nurses and other Health Professionals who have already been working full-time in Saskatchewan on a temporary work permit for at least six months.

Hospitality Sector Workers – Food/beverage servers, food counter attendants/kitchen helpers and housekeeping/cleaning staff are eligible, under a pilot initiative, to apply for a temporary foreign work permit for a company that has been approved by the SINP.

Long-Haul Truck Drivers –  Long haul truck drivers must first begin working in Saskatchewan for an approved trucking firm on a temporary foreign work permit.  If an approved trucking firm offers them permanent employment, after a minimum of six months employment, they may apply to the SINP for permanent resident status.

Students – International student graduates from a Canadian university, who have a current, permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer, are eligible to apply for permanent resident status through the SINP.

Family Members - Immigrant families living in Saskatchewan who want to help their skilled and educated family members come to work and live in the province can use the SINP.  Applicants must have a relative who is a permanent resident of Saskatchewan and has lived in the province for a minimum of one year.  The applicant must have a permanent, full-time position with a Saskatchewan employer.  Relatives must be willing to provide applicants with assistance during the immigration process and after they arrive in Saskatchewan.

Can I hire a worker who is already in Canada? How about a worker who is outside of Canada?

The SINP is open to skilled workers both in and outside of Canada.  Some categories are for individuals already in Canada, while other categories are open to persons in or out of the country with a valid job offer that meets SINP criteria.

In CanadaTo hire a person who is already in Canada, you should first consider their legal status.  If they already have a valid work permit or student visa then they can apply to the SINP for nomination.

Please note that an individual cannot work for your company until they have a work permit specifically for the job you are offering them or until they become a permanent resident, whichever comes first.

For questions about hiring a foreign worker already in Canada, please contact Saskatchewan Immigration by calling 306.798.7467 or send an email to immigration@gov.sk.ca

Outside Canada: To hire a person who is outside Canada you will have to ensure that you have a job description, have determined a salary comparable to that which a Canadian would be paid for the same job, and have determined that the position for which you are hiring meets the SINP’s National Occupation Code (NOC) requirements. Then you will need to provide the worker with a letter of offer. See our step-by-step checklist in section two to understand the requirements to hire a foreign worker from abroad.
