Family Referral

I am applying under the Family Referral Category.  Does my job offer need to be in the NOC level 0, A or B or be a designated trade in Saskatchewan?

Yes. Under the Family Referral Category, the SINP will only accept a job offer at any NOC level A or B or in a designated trade in Saskatchewan.  Live-in-Caregivers are not eligible jobs under this program. See Citizenship and Immigration Canada's (CIC) Live-in-Caregiver program.

My family member wants to apply and meets the educational requirements under the Family Referral Category, but does not have any work experience in skilled job (NOC level 0, A or B or a Designated trade in Saskatchewan).  Are they eligible to apply to the SINP?

In the Family Referral Category the applicant must be able to prove that their work experience is related to their post-secondary education.

How many family members can I support?

There is no limit to the number of family members you can support. However, your household is eligible to support one application (family) at a time.  You must prove the family member you have supported has economically established with employment in Saskatchewan prior to being considered eligible to submit additional application to support another family.

Why can’t I support more than one family at a time?

The SINP is an economic immigration program and labour market oriented. Positive settlement of nominees with labour market attachment meets the program objective.  In addition, because of the enormity of the support commitment, it is important that your households are able to fully support the family that you are bringing to Canada and to demonstrate their settlement is successful.

How much do I need to earn before I can support a family member?

The SINP does not require that a family member earns a minimum income before being eligible to support a family member.  We require proof that you are self-supporting (have not received financial support through the Saskatchewan Assistance Plan, Employment Insurance, the Resettlement Assistance Program, or other income support program within the last six months).

What happens with the files that I currently have that are in process?

Applications that were received prior to May 1, 2012, will continue to be processed according to the pre-existing criteria.

Does my spouse have to be living and working in Saskatchewan?

Yes, you and your spouse and children should all be living in Saskatchewan in order to be eligible support family members.  However, the SINP does not require that both of you are employed as long as you can demonstrate that your family is self supporting.

Who can send in the supporting household documentation me or my spouse?

If both of you qualify it is up to you who sends in the documentation in.

What do you mean by the applicant must have successfully settled in Saskatchewan?

The applicant should be able to show that they obtained permanent resident status, taken residence in Saskatchewan, employed with reliable income; and self supporting as a family.

Can my spouse support an applicant at the same time that I am supporting someone else?

No.  A supporting household can only support one family member at a time.

Can I show settlement funds instead of employment reference to demonstrate my successful settlement in Saskatchewan?

No, the SINP requires that you demonstrate your labour market attachment through employment (employed or self employed) with reliable sources of income in Saskatchewan.

Can I still support other family members if the family I previously supported has not taken residence in Saskatchewan or has left the province for better opportunities?

No. The family you have previously supported must demonstrate that they live and work in Saskatchewan so that you can support other family members through the SINP.

My friend and I live at the same address can we each support a family member?

No, a supporting household consists of all individuals living at an address.  Therefore, only one family member can be supported by you or your friend.

My friend lives in the basement suite of my house, can we both support a family member?

Possibly, you will need to provide supporting documentation that shows that they are separate dwellings.  Situations like this will be assessed on a case by case basis by the SINP.
