What does the international worker need to do?

It is the responsibility of the international worker to make the application to SINP.  The employee can apply to SINP through the mail or on-line.  Immigration is completed in a two-step process:

Step 1: Apply to the SINP office for nomination

When you apply to the SINP office for nomination, this process includes the completion of provincial forms and affidavits.

The international worker will need to collect and submit a number of forms and supporting documents in the following categories:

  • Offer of Permanent Employment
  • Language Credentials
  • Identification Documents
  • Education and Training Certification
  • Work Experience
  • Bank Confirmation of Personal Funds
  • Licensing Credentials
  • Security Documents

SINP may request additional information or may return the application if it is not fully prepared.  Individuals who do not meet the requirements for eligibility the first time may apply again at a later date if their circumstances change.

For those who are approved for nomination, the SINP will send a work permit support letter that can be used to apply for a temporary work permit.

Step 2: Once SINP nominated, the international worker will apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada

Once the international worker is nominated by the SINP, he or she will apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) with the SINP nomination, requesting permanent residence status.  CIC will conduct health, security and criminal reviews prior to issuing visas.   (An international worker can apply for a temporary work permit, which allows them to start their Saskatchewan employment before their permanent residence is approved.)
